Ben Powers Design+Animation

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT BEN BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK.

This is an abridged history of my life in design. I've only hit the highlights, which should be enough to blow your mind, but not melt your screen.

Experience

Chief Designer, The Reflector
Mississippi State University 2003-2004

Day-to-day layout and graphics for the campus's student newspaper. Simultaneously did political cartoons and received hate mail. Tight deadlines and plenty of stress. A trial-by-fire learning environment.

Intern, Oden Marketing and Design
Summer 2003

Assisted senior designers on high-profile client projects and worked cooperatively with a marketing intern on low-profile internal projects.

BFA Graphic Design
Mississippi State University 2004

Where the schooling took place. Started my education with fundamental art and design theory, then learned the basics in a broad spectrum of visual apps. Print, interactive, animation, and a bit of 3D modeling and animation.

Fun fact: My first year and a half of college was as a microbiology major.

Art Director
inferno 2004-2007

Ah, the salad days. I've learned more from my time at inferno than any of the years prior. The horizontal hierarchy (i.e. NO hierarchy), meant tons of responsibility right from the start. I was able to hone my skills in nearly every area of design and now laugh at the amateurish and inefficient work from my past (this includes the layout I did last week).
